Import your readers

Bring readers in from another platform or a spreadsheet — add your export files, check the numbers, and import in the background. You can undo it.

You can add readers one at a time, but most writers start by importing a list they already have. If you're moving a whole account from another email platform, Switching to AuthorSend covers what moves and what is rebuilt.

Import your list

Go to Subscribers and choose Import.
Say where your readers are now. AuthorSend shows you where to find the export in that platform.
Add your .csv files — every file from the export. The first row of each should be the column headers.
Check what AuthorSend found: readers, unsubscribed or bounced addresses, tags and lists.
Optionally add everyone to one or more lists, then press the Bring in button.

The import runs in the background. You can close the window; we email you when it is done.

A list of more than about 25,000 rows is too large to check on this screen. You can send it to us from the same place and we bring it in for you.

Include your unsubscribes

Export unsubscribed and bounced readers along with everyone else. They come across blocked: they are never emailed, and they do not count toward your plan. If your platform puts them in a separate file with no status column, AuthorSend recognizes the file by its name and shows what it took the readers to be — you can correct it before importing.

What gets left out

AuthorSend leaves out rows it shouldn't import and tells you how many:

Invalid addresses — rows with no usable email.
Never confirmed — people who never completed their signup on your old platform.
Disposable domains — throwaway addresses that would only hurt your delivery.

Anyone already on your blocked list here stays blocked, whatever the file says. A reader you already have is never added twice.

Undo an import

Open Import again, view your last import, and choose Undo this import. It removes exactly what that import added. Readers who were already on your list stay.

Only import people who asked to hear from you
