Import your contacts

Bring readers in from a CSV — map your columns to AuthorSend fields and choose what happens when a reader already exists.

You can add readers one at a time, but most writers start by importing a list they already have. If you're moving from another email platform, see Switching to AuthorSend first — we can bring your whole account across for you, tags and sequences included.

Import from a CSV

  1. Go to Subscribers and choose Import.
  2. Upload a .csv file. The first row should be your column headers (name, email, and any custom data you keep).
  3. Map your columns to AuthorSend fields. Obvious matches like Email and First name are matched for you; anything unusual becomes a custom field you can map yourself.
  4. Optionally assign the whole import to a list or tag so you can find these readers again.
  5. Review the summary and start the import.

When a reader already exists

If an incoming row matches someone already in your account, you decide the rule before the import runs:

  • Skip — keep the existing record untouched.
  • Overwrite — replace existing fields with the incoming data.
  • Merge — combine the two records field by field.

A reader is never counted twice, no matter how many lists or segments they end up in.

Only import people who asked to hear from you

Importing a list you bought, scraped, or haven't emailed in years is the fastest way to land in spam folders and hurt delivery for everyone. Import readers who opted in — see Improve your deliverability and Stay compliant with CAN-SPAM and GDPR.
