Anti-spam law requires a valid postal address in the footer of every marketing email. AuthorSend asks for yours the first time you send or schedule a newsletter, and adds it to the footer for you from then on.
Most authors work from home and don't want that address in every reader's inbox. You don't have to use it.
What counts
The address has to be one where mail can reach you. Under the US rule (CAN-SPAM), that can be any of these:
- A PO box you have registered with the postal service.
- A private mailbox from a mail-receiving or mail-forwarding service (often sold as a "virtual mailbox"). You get a real street address with a box number, and the service scans or forwards what arrives.
- A business address you are allowed to use: a co-working space, an office, or your publisher or agent if they agree to it.
Your current street address works too. It is simply not the only choice.
Which to pick
- A PO box is the simplest if there is a post office near you. You rent it in person and collect your own mail.
- A mail-forwarding address suits you if you travel, live abroad, or want a street address instead of a box number. Compare the monthly price and how each service handles the mail it receives.
- A business address costs nothing if you already have one. Ask before you use someone else's.
Add or change it
- The first time you send or schedule a newsletter, the dialog asks for your address. Fill it in and save.
- To change it later, open Settings and choose Compliance.
The same address appears on every newsletter you send, so a change applies to everything you send afterwards.
